DR. TOM PERRIN

SPORTS PSYCHOLOGIST

Tom combines his high-level coaching and psychology background to support players in reaching individual and team goals. With a PhD in sport psychology from the University of Virginia and an MEd and BA from the University of Vermont, Tom’s education, experience, and leadership skills have allowed him to work successfully with a broad range of teams and organizations.

What I value so much about Tom’s approach is that he understands everyone is wired differently and therefore needs different ways to get themselves in that ‘sweet spot’ of being ‘at your best’ day in and day out.
— Tony Bennett, UVA Men's Basketball Coach

The first half of Tom’s career was spent in the realm of highly competitive intercollegiate, professional, and international sport. A university athlete, coach, and NBA advance scout, Tom was part of the coaching staff that led the University of Virginia’s basketball team to 297 wins over 15 years, resulting in many post-season tournament appearances. As an advance scout for the Indiana Pacers, he worked 2 years under the leadership of Rick Carlisle and Larry Bird.

Perrin & Associates was founded in 2004. Established to provide the support needed to assess and identify multidimensional solutions in sport and business, it helps people develop the skills needed for long-term success. Tom has worked with the United States Men’s Soccer Team, the United States Women’s Soccer Team, the U.S. World Cup Team, the Detroit Pistons, and countless college and professional athletes.

Over the past 16 years, Tom has performed over 10,000 assessments used to drive individual and team performance by optimizing communication and understanding in highly competitive, fast moving, stressful environments. Tom's work has facilitated successful outcomes in a diverse array of challenging fields.

When not working, Tom enjoys spending time with Sheryl, his wife of 40 years and his two daughters, Riley and Emily. Highly competitive, Tom played basketball at the University of Vermont and has completed more than a dozen long-distance marathons of up to 50 miles.
